Moving abroad as a student is exciting, but it can feel overwhelming with all the steps involved. From filling out applications to booking your flight, there are dozens of details to manage. To make things easier, here’s a step-by-step checklist to take you from application to relocation.

1. Admission/Inscription Stage

  • Researching universities and programs (consider ranking, tuition, scholarships, and location)
  • Checking eligibility requirements (GPA, language tests, prerequisites)
  • Gathering documents (transcripts, recommendation letters, CV/resume, statement of purpose)
  • Preparing for and book standardized tests (TOEFL/IELTS, GRE/GMAT if needed)
  • Verifying if official notary or translation of your documents are asked by the university
  • Submitting applications before deadlines
  • Applying for scholarships, grants, or financial aid
  • Tracking application portals for admission results
  • Accepting offer letter (choose your program carefully if multiple acceptances)
  • Paying tuition fees in full or partial (as per the agreement signed/as per the details in admission letter)
  • Requesting official admission letter for visa purposes

2. Visa and Legal Documents Stage

  • Drafting Statement of Purpose/Letter of Intent dedicated to the Embassy
  • Preparing student visa documents(check embassy requirements early)
  • Preparing financial proof (bank statements, sponsorship, scholarship letter, relationship certificates with your sponsor)
  • Gathering health records (vaccinations, psychologically fit and medical certificate if required: required mainly for admission to MBBS)
  • Get copies of passport, birth certificate, and important documents
  • Purchase international student insurance (if not covered by university/Health system of the destination country)
  • Filling Visa application form, Confirming Visa lodgement Appointment

3.Pre-Departure, Settling In Abroad, Relocation Stage

  • Arrange housing (university dorms, shared apartments, or private rentals)
  • Book flights in advance for cheaper rates
  • Plan airport pickup or local transport upon arrival
  • Open an international bank account or prepare funds
  • Register for orientation sessions
  • Pack essentials (study materials, electronics, adaptors, medications, cultural items)
  • Register with local authorities (residence permit, town hall, etc.)
  • Open a local bank account
  • Get a local SIM card/phone plan
  • Sign up for student health insurance (if required)
  • Attend university orientation and networking events
  • Learn public transport system and local essentials (grocery stores, pharmacies)
  • Meet with academic advisors to set your course plan
  • Join student clubs, associations, or cultural groups
  • Explore part-time job/internship opportunities (if allowed)
  • Stay connected with family while building local friendships
